Artist Bio

Andre Avanessian is a multimedia artist based in the Chicago area. He earned his BFA from Columbia College before moving to Los Angeles, where his interest in film and cinema led him to work within the Hollywood studio system. That experience ultimately prompted him to pursue an independent practice outside institutional frameworks.
In 2013, Avanessian was accepted into the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he studied in the photography department. His work engages themes of judgment, belief, anxiety, and moral tension, often using language and image without offering resolution. Avanessian is of Armenian ancestry and a fluent Armenian speaker.
